‘Hala', 19, illustrates the proverb “tomorrow there will be apricots.” Divorced from her husband after only 25 days, she had been forced to marry her abusive cousin after her father was killed. She feels she is slowly dying inside the apartment. Her mother is part of a group known locally as the “wives of martyrs”, and they live under strict rules enforced by a Qatari patron who pays their rents. She is now considering a marriage proposal to be the second wife of a Saudi, receiving the offer from his mother who chose to find options among the Syrian refugees.
